The 2009 MVAW chili cook-off took place on Friday, February 13th. In keeping with the date, the winning booth design “Delicious Superstitious Chili” featured several well-known and some not so well-known symbols of bad luck. Be careful not to slice off both ends of a loaf of bread!
Several unique and very good-tasting recipes were featured by the contestants. From an interesting mix with chicken and bacon (the winning entry) to a four meat version with sausage from the Wild West to my personal favorite with sweet peppers from the California Dream Team, all were distinctive and delicious. The second place prize went to a team that successfully produced a chili that required extra crackers and caused one sensitive taster to say “my lips are burning; they should throw that one in the garbage!”
A special “thank you” to the Wellness Committee for sponsoring the event and providing a fun-filled day for all participants and spectators.
