MVAW has scheduled a ground-breaking ceremony for an eight unit apartment building in Belcourt on April 29, 2010. Turtle Creek Apartments will offer residential services to adults with disabilities. Financing has been obtained through a USDA Rural Development loan and a Neighborhood Stabilization Program grant administered by the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency.
Day Supports has been offered in Belcourt since 1999. After requests from local residents, approval for two residential facilities in the region was granted by the Department of Human Services Developmental Disabilities Division. The first, also an eight-unit apartment building, opened in Rolla in June 2009.
Support services will be designed to meet each individual’s needs, based on his/her preferences and goals. Services/supports offered may include assistance with meal preparation, health management, behavioral plans, transportation, housekeeping, recreation, finances, personal care, and decision-making. Referral and eligibility determination are through the Lake Region Human Service Center in Devils Lake.
