What to expect if hired!
All new MVAW staff are required to attend "New Staff Orientation". You will learn a variety of things during this orientation process. Some of what is covered is listed below -
- Mission and Philosophy of MVAW
- History of the Agency
- Organizational Stucture of the Agency
- What is/How to use "people first language"
- What are"Personal Outcomes" and plans and how it applies to all staff
- Confidentiality
- Training on a variety of agency policies (ie. Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation, Safety, Personnel and Medication Administration)
- Training and Certification Seizure training CPR , First Aid training and Emergency Physical Restraint Training
- Staff Training Program - Module Certification requirements
- Extensive -Job Specific training will occur in each specific program where hired to work
Brief description of what to expect if you are hired for the position.
Staff in these positions will assist with people's personal care - this includes assisting people to eat, bathe, oral care, breif changes, etc. You will also assist people with their laundry, making their beds and other simple household tasks. You would also be responsible for implementation of each person's plan and maintaining accurate records.
The ideal candidate for the ICF/MR program is someone who will become and stay medication ceritified, can problem solve, has a team player attitude, and feels comfortable with providing personal care to people.
To support individuals to gain independence in their daily lives by supporting them to make choices throughout their day. Individuals are supported to decide when to complete activities and/or tasks. They also receive training, support and encouragement so they can actively participate and make choices in their daily routines.
The ideal support staff will be someone with the ability to encourage independence, have a positive upbeat attitude, and willing to participate in community activities with the individuals we support.
Staff in these positions assist people with daily living skills and health care needs. They also assist people to appointments and other activities.
The ideal support staff is someone who is patient, able to communicate verbally, have the abiltiy to follow a person's plan and be self-motivated.
MSLA residential support staff assist individuals in their activities of daily living in a supervised apartment setting. Tasks may include preparing a meal, grocery shopping, participating in recreational activities in the community, and completing household cleaning.
Staff assist individuals to manage their money as independently as possible. Staff are required to provide some assistance with personal hygiene and are trained to administer medications.
Staff in these positions will assist with financial management (bill paying, accessing spending money, budgets, etc); assist with transportation –valid driver’s license required; the ability to assist with teaching people how to make good healthy lifestyle choices –this includes encouraging exercise and supporting people to improve their cooking skills; and the ability to assist with helping the people they support maintain a good, clean living environment
The ideal support staff candidate in these positions will become and stay med certified, have excellent time management skills, be flexible and follow a schedule. These positions also require the ability to exercise good judgment, implement plans as written and collect/document data.
An employee in this position is responsible for training and supervision of people with disabilities enrolled in the Day Supports Program. The employee will implement and follow each person’s plan, maintain required records and reports, evaluate individual progress, demonstrate interactions, accompany people to appointments and provide transportation, and assist in completing all personal care duties as needed. Effective communication both in writing and orally are required.
To assist individuals with their employment needs by transporting people to and from their worksites (agency vehicles available) and on-site support such as modeling, instruction and prompts.
The ideal job coach candidate will be someone with excellent interpersonal communication skills, the ability to problem solve and the ability to communicate thoroughly in both oral and written form.
Staff in this position provide short term care to people with disabilties, so that the parents/guardians can get away to run errands or attend appointments. You may be working right in the persons home for a few hours or you may be out in the community participating in an activity of the persons choice.
