Day Support Services
MVAW’s Day Support program runs from 8:30 – 4:30 Monday through Friday. Activities in this program include a broad range of pre-employment skills training for people who want to work or for those looking to experience a variety of activities.
People participate in specific work and/or social skills training:
Following supervisors directions
Completing work tasks
Improving work quality
Improving work quantity
Getting along with co-workers
Life skills training
People are provided with hands-on experience whenever possible to refine the skills needed in order to maintain employment. These areas may include janitorial, meal preparation, simple maintenance skills, gardening and grounds maintenance.
People also work on agency contracts and are paid a piece rate. These jobs include sorting, labeling, and assembly work.
Support is provided in developing hobbies and interests that have meaning and purpose to a person's daily life. People are also supported to participate in the community by becoming a volunteer. This is an excellent way for people to create new friendships and the experiences can also provide opportunities for possible paid work in the future.
Some people participate in daily structured activities that include opportunities to make choices and to experience a variety of activities. People receive training and support, as needed, to enhance communication skills, manage problem behaviors, develop or enhance relationships with others, find hobbies or explore interests such as art, sports, gardening, or computer skills.
