Residential Services

Homes for People with Severe Disabilities

Intermediate Care Facilities - Mental Retardation  (ICF-MR)

MVAW has two group homes which are available for people with severe, profound, and multiple disabilities.  24 hour intensive staff support is available to meet individual needs for services.   These group homes are licensed and house ten people each.

People living in these residences receive a broad array of services to assist them to live as independently as possible, plan and use leisure time, participate in community life, and develop satisfying relationships.

People receive training and support that will enhance their ability to meet their needs for personal care, daily living, and to maintain optimum health.  People are encouraged to participate in normal chores and responsibilities of maintaining a home - dusting, setting the table, meal prep, laundry, grocery shopping, banking, etc.  They may reduce their dependence on others by making choices about their daily routines, initiating activities, managing problem behavior, or communicating their needs.

Some people may choose to work or participate in a work training program.  Others may choose to volunteer at local charities or non-profit organizations such as the food pantry or meals-on-wheels where they are assisted to interact with community service people and form relationships.

People enrolled in these programs may be found walking at the mall, swimming in a pool, having coffee with other people their age at a local café, or choosing a gift or card for friends or family members.  Many people select a part of their home that is theirs to decorate for holidays and special occasions, or prepare food that is native to their ethnic culture.
